After several hours of discussion, it was announced that Blackpool councilors endorsed plans to build two casinos in the city, as part of a remodeling project of the old Central Station. The project, submitted by the town’s development agency ReBlackpool, has yet to be approved by the UK government.

The agency intends to build two casinos, three luxury hotels and a conference center in the belief that it will help to improve Blackpool’s economy, which has been in decade for several years, by attracting tourists. ReBlackpool wants to make sure that the Central Station land is used to build a large entertainment complex so as to attract private investors.

“This is not a new application - it has been on the table about two years and should have come to us last October but was delayed,” Councilor Brian Doherty said. If MP’s approve the plan, two casinos, one of 12,556 square meters and another one of 12,247 will be built.

Last month, the town’s development agency submitted an application for the People’s Playground, with the purpose to make of the coastline an icon of the northwest. The object of the proposals is creating six themed-headlands and a new night-time landscape in order to create a unique dunescape.
